Get to Know You

He said,

I want to grow to know places in you that I never knew I could touch.

Just give me a little time and I’ll open up.

Eventually becoming more comfortable with you

Learning the things you like, hoping to add something new

Have you ever been with a man like me before?

I take as much as I give, and nothing more.

Tender and sweet, connected to my heart.

Emotions flow freely without a second thought.

This is how I am, too old to be a phase.

There are things I don’t like and that will never change.

I want you to see me, without judgment or disguise.

So you know for certain if I am your guy.

So let’s slow this down, give it space to breathe

I didn’t know what you meant when you said you wanted me

I thought it was just a sexual thing

But you want to know me, not just have a fling.

I said,

I’m sorry if that came out a bit aggressive

I wasn’t sure if you’d catch the message

You caught my eye, when I walked past you smiled

Then we met up again and nothing transpired.

I was worried maybe, you weren’t into me

Then you invited me out to a gathering

I wanted to talk, but not crowd your space

Getting close to you was all I could think

I slipped, fell and grabbed your arm

Squeezing it tightly, I felt your warmth

You thanked me for not leaving you there

I said, “I got you”, as we took a picture

My heart wasn’t racing, and there was no sweat

My body not panicking, felt perfect in step

I didn’t fall madly, not gasping for air

Just wanted to know you, and go from there

You sent me a message, said I looked good as art

I wanted to hear I looked good from the start

I told you to say it flat out to my face

You sent me your number so we could engage.

You asked what I was doing, I was packing to leave

You joked that I, had perfect timing

It was ironic that I picked then to pounce

But then we had a phone call that lasted 6 hours

We stayed up all night, conversation untamed

We got off the phone an hour before my plane

You napped before work and I waited in line

Recalling the fantasy’s we dreamt up all night

Here we are now, a couple weeks later

Still being able to savor the flavor

You’ve opened up more, and I have too

I’m still excited for getting to know you
